Android On A Roll With 700,000 Activations A Day

Android

Google’s Android chief Andy Rubin has just announced that Android activations have reached a daily rate of over 700,000. Each device is counted only once, so re-sold devices are not included. Basically, whenever you put the device on a network, it counts for a new activation. Back in May, daily activations stood at 550,000, and it’s a tremendous growth for Google’s platform since then.

Last month, Google announced it has already activated 200 million Android devices, and customers have also quickly increased their usage of apps. The Android Market has reached 10 million downloads and is continuing a steady growth.

Wish We Worked For Google This Time Of Year

Google Galaxy Nexus

It appears that Google employees are going to enjoy the latest and greatest Android smartphone that the search giant and Samsung have to offer after it emerged the company is giving its staff customised handsets as a Christmas thank you.

The handset itself isn’t an ordinary Galaxy Nexus either; the device has been outfitted with a customised back cover, one that sports various Google+ and Android icons (which are one and the same) — a nice touch considering they are being specifically given to Google employees.

Prada Introduces New Mobile Phone

Prada LG Mobile Phone

Fancy, Schmancy!  The luxury brand Prada and LG Electronics have introduced the “PRADA phone by LG 3.0” today. It is the third PRADA phone that has emerged from the collaboration. It will run on Android.

The PRADA phone by LG is 3.0, the first smartphone on the label. The appearance of smartphones reflects the design philosophy of PRADA. The front is made of Corning Gorilla glass, the sides are strongly rounded and the back is covered by the PRADA Saffiano typical pattern.

Pricing will be announced soon, but expect it to be much more than you’ve ever spent on any mobile device.

Nothing Is More Exciting Than Getting Your First Mobile Phone

It happened faster than we thought.  10-year old Zoe just got her first mobile phone.  As her dad, my thought process has been that she didn’t need one yet.  However there were other circumstances that had to be taken into consideration.  The main issue is that my wife has been  getting pretty sick of receiving text messages from Zoe’s friends all the time.  Like many children, Zoe has been using her mom’s cell phone to text all her friends.  The other night, our family was out to dinner when my wife received a text from a parent of one those friends.  It said “Take my cell phone number off your list, and never use this number again!”   You see, Zoe’s friends also use their parents cell phones to text, and from the look of it, they too are getting tired of text messages coming in on their number that are meant for their kids.  There are alternatives for a child to communicate with their friends.  They could use the home phone,  or even better “Facetime” with an iPod Touch via WiFi.   They could also use that same iPod for texting.  There are plenty of free apps available that let you do just that.  But it’s not the same.  It’s all about your new identity.  Your exclusive cell phone number.  A sign that you’re growing up.  So what’s a good first phone?  Zoe got a Pantech Pursuit 2.  One of those “free” phones.  It’s actually quite compact and when you slide up the front, a full keyboard is found.  It also has green accents that she thinks are pretty “cool”.  We added the line to our “family plan” for $9.99 a month via AT&T.  She can share the minutes and our unlimited family texting.  Sorry Zoe, no data for you.  We’ll be keeping a tight hold on Zoe’s cell and texting habits, but so far, so good.

It’s Not Too Late! Microsoft’s Black Friday: $100 Kinect, Free Windows Phone

Microsoft’s growing retail footprint, in stores and online, comes with an obligation to participate in the annual Black Friday sales — at least if it wants to keep up with the competition in the madness that is post-Thanksgiving shopping in the United States.

The Microsoft Store retail site has put up a page teasing the company’s lineup of Black Friday deals, scheduled to start at 12 a.m. Pacific time Friday, and they’re not too shabby. The Microsoft Store’s Facebook page has additional details.
