Confirmed: New Wii U To Be Released Later This Year

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has told reporters that the Wii U will launch in the US, Japan, Europe, and Australia for the end of 2012. While the system was previously pegged for a 2012 release, this is the first time we’ve got confirmation that it’ll make it in time for the holiday season in all major markets. The 3DS launched last year in February in Japan and March elsewhere, meaning it likely got off to a slower start than if it had been available before Christmas. The announcement also means we are likely to see much more finalized details of the Wii U’s software lineup at E3 in June — so far, hands-on time with the console has been limited to tech demos.

Nintendo Allows 3DS Fans A Chance To Demo Games

Nintendo has announced that game demos will be made available via the Nintendo 3DS eShop from tomorrow, with Capcom’s Resident Evil Revelations kicking off proceedings.

The 3DS eShop launched in June last year, allowing Nintendo 3DS gamers to download original 3DS digital titles and DSi titles, along with a number of special apps for use with the handheld.

Demos of Resident Evil Revelations – the full game due for release next month — and Cooking Mama 4 will be made available for free download tomorrow, while demos for other titles such as Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure are due to appear “periodically,” says Nintendo.

Nintendo Circle Pad Pro Comes All Juiced Up!

Nintendo Circle Pad Pro

The Nintendo 3DS has had its share of problems, not least its fleetingly short battery life. It sounds like the upcoming 3DS Circle Pad Pro accessory may not be sharing in its host’s plight, however. An Andriasang reader with visual proof of owning the accessory — just a tad earlier than its December 10th Japanese launch — says the bundled manual claims it’ll survive 480 hours on a single AAA cell. We’re still slightly mystified as to why Nintendo didn’t use the opportunity of a bulky accessory to extend the stamina of the console itself, but if this pans out, at least the cost has been kept relatively low. The Circle Pad Pro launches in Japan this Saturday for 1,500 yen, or 6,990 yen bundled with a copy of Monster Hunter 3 (tri-) G. We’ll have hands-on impressions of both soon, where we’ll be able to read the manual for ourselves. We also promise to be running a stopwatch for every minute of those dual-thumb-blistering (purported) 480 or so hours.

Nintendo Sales Up. Go Mario!!

29 Nov

Super Mario 3D Land and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword helped Nintendo to a successful kickoff of the holiday sales season.

The new Nintendo 3DS game, Super Mario 3D Land, which landed in stores Nov. 11, has become the fastest-selling portable Mario game in company history, selling more than 500,000 units since launch, says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime.

Meanwhile, the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, released for the Nintendo Wii on Sunday, Nov. 20, has sold 535,000 copies since its U.S. launch, making it the fastest-selling Zelda game ever, he says.
